Idiopathic hypoparathyroidism is extremely rare disease. We experienced an interesting case of idiopathic hypoparathyroidism associated with Lown-Ganong Syndrome and we want to report this case with bried review of literature.
A 29 years old housewife was admitted with the chief complaints of generalized skin eruptions of 40 days duration, intermittent numbness and tingling sensation of extremities and muscular spasm associated with convulsion for 5 years.
Physical examination revealed erythematous eruption with bullae, pustules and crusts over the entire body surface and diffuse alopecia on the scalp. Bilateral cataract was found on ophthalmologic examination. On neurological examination Chvostek¢¥s and Trousseau¢¥s signs were strongly positive.
The laboratory examination showed marked hypocalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, negative Sulkowitch test, and leukocytosis. Electrocardiogram revealed prolongation of QT interval, inverted T wave on all leads, and short P-R interval with normal QRS complex.
Clinical symptoms and signs showed marked improvement after treatment with steroid and antibiotics for the skin lesion and supplementary calcium and Vitamin D for the titanic episode.
